Stop Rape Simulation Games

Petrovac, Montenegro, 26-27 June 2009

Resolution

Socialist International Women is deeply shocked by a rape simulation game for sale over the Internet called RapeLay. This game is produced and sold in Japan only and was until recently available on the Japanese Amazon website.

The game of RapeLay enables players to simulate raping women and young girls. For instance, the player begins the game by stalking a mother before raping her and then moving on to attack her two young daughters.

Socialist International Women therefore:

calls for all games that involve rape, stalking or other forms of sexual violence against women and young girls to be withdrawn from sale in Japan;

urges the Japanese government to take effective measures to overcome stereotypical sex-discrimination and other practices that obstruct women's equality and

calls on other women's organisations and NGOs to publicly condemn this humiliating and degrading form of ‘entertainment’.
