Barbara Prammer

11 January 1954 – 02 August 2014

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Barbara Prammer, former Vice-President of the Socialist International Women (SIW) from Austria passed away on 02 August 2014.

Barbara Prammer was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria and served as an SIW Vice-President from 2005 to 2012. She also served as President of the National Council of Austria from 2006 to 2014 and as its Vice-President from 2004 to 2006. Barbara was also the Federal Minister for Women Affairs and Consumer Protection for Austria from 1997 to 2000.

Barbara was an inspiration to all women all over the world. As a former Vice-President of SIW, we had the privilege to work with Barbara and witness her passion, dedication and solidarity to the causes of women. Barbara was also an outstanding political leader. She dedicated her life to the people of her country and to working for democracy, freedom and equality for all.

We take this opportunity to send our wholehearted condolences to Barbara Prammer’s family, to everyone at the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) and to the Austrian people who have lost a champion of women’s rights and an outstanding political leader.
